Antenatal Course Details:Knowledge is empowering and learning more about the miracle of childbirth will certainly prepare you and give you and your partner added confidence to enjoy this wonderful experience! The details of the course I offer follow. Should you decide to attend this course, it is important that you book well in advance as limited space is available. Duration of course: Wednesday evenings 18h30 – 20h30, 6 classes
When to start: Ideally between 26 and 28 weeks gestation
Venue: Vincent Pallotti Hospital, Dick Williamson Medical Centre, Gymnasium on basement level (follow the signs from the hospital entrance at the coffee shop)
Cost: R600 per couple payable at first class. (This cost may vary per year)Medical aid: Some medical aids cover part or all of the amount. The couple is responsible to make payment and then claim it from their medical aid. The necessary proof of attendance and payment is supplied which can be submitted with the claim.
Size of class: 8 - 10 couples – wonderful! This allows for plenty of personal interaction, questions and involvement.
Format: Lecture, videos, relevant practical exercises. Plenty of opportunity for interaction to ask those burning questions! What to bring: a pen, basic notes are provided. What to wear: dress comfortably, I will advise you in advance if you need to wear a tracksuit for one of the sessions.
Can you attend on your own?: If your partner will miss a session or two, you are welcome to bring a friend or relative or come on your own.

Class 4: Possible complications during birth Caesarean sections, forceps and vacuum deliveries Hospital routine after delivery Getting back to normal after the birth
Class 5: Preparation for breast feeding Getting off to a good start Advantages to mother and child Common problems and how to solve them
Class 6: Baby routine after delivery Appearance at birth What to expect in the first 6 weeks Practical aspects of baby care: safety in the home and car, clinic visits, immunisations, sleep routines, etc
